SIX THINGS to look for on the open road

I’ve spent a fair bit of time on the road recently. What makes the long hauls enjoyable? Sharing meals with old friends and meeting new ones along the way. Here are a few favorite pit stops that I hope you’ll have a chance to seek out soon…

I. For oysters and classic cocktails in a beautiful ambiance: Maison Premiere, Williamsburg.

II. For a laid-back night (or late afternoon) with a focus on fantastic sours and saisons:Wicked Weed Brewing, Asheville.

III. For a cozy evening with close friends over candlelight, or a lazy morning with a great read: Le Gamin, Greenpoint.

IV. For down-home, delicious BBQ with all the standard sides: 12 Bones, Asheville. (Walk off the meal by popping into the galleries nearby.)

V. For organic (!) Margaritas and table-side guacamole, you really can't go wrong: Rosa Mexicano, Washington DC.

VI. For when you need to pick up a succulent with your morning coffee, this part-cafe, part-plant shop has impeccable taste in both: Caffe Spina, Greenpoint.

P.S. I'm in Baltimore this weekend! Join us on Sunday, 5/4 for back-to-back DIY events. First, learn how to make a gorgeous floral arrangement at Becket Hitch with Petal and Print; then come say hi at k1p1 at Artifact Coffee
