With the seemingly never-ending cold this winter, what better way to warm your bones than with a steaming bath? Soaking in hot water instantly relaxes and soothes, and the many benefits of bath-taking range from improved circulation to rejuvenating achy muscles after a tough day of shoveling snow. Bath teas are an amalgam of therapeutic ingredients, including Epsom salts, oatmeal, and aromatic herbs, which are added to a sachet and steeped directly in the tub. When they hit the water, the herbs release their essential oils to create an infusion of stress-easing scents while oatmeal calms dry winter skin. Go ahead: mark "tub time" on your to-do list. All you need now is a good read.
-2 cups Epsom salts
-1/4 to 1/2 cup dried lavender, chamomile, or lemon verbena (combine them all or play it solo)
-1/3 to 3/4 cup of rolled oats
-Cheese cloth or metal tea infuser
Step 1: Pour salts into a large mixing bowl. Add dried herbs and oats; mix.
Step 2: If making sachets, cut fabric into 6-inch squares, then add salts and herb mixture to center of square. Gather fabric corners and tie off with twine. If using metal tea ball, fill ball with herb mixture.
Step 3: Add tea to bath while water is running and leave it to steep. Then, hop in and r-e-l-a-x.
